TIM Taranto's shoulder injury took the shine off Greater Western Sydney's 94-point thrashing of Sydney on Saturday, but the club remains hopeful the issue might not be serious.

Taranto dislocated his right shoulder in an innocuous contest early in the first term against the Swans at Blacktown International Sportspark and was in obvious pain and he slowly walked from the field.

The shoulder was already strapped, but GWS assistant coach Amon Buchanan, who was in charge for the clash, said post-match that the 2019 club champion hasn't had any issues with it over summer.

Taranto will have scans to determine how much damage he's done.

"It's disappointing for Tim and fingers crossed we get good news," Buchanan said.

"It slipped out and went back in, which is a good thing I think, so we'll wait and see.

"He's obviously a bit flat about it but we'll look after him over the next few days."

The loss of Taranto didn't stop a commanding performance from the Giants, who kicked 15 goals in a row after quarter-time against the hapless Swans.

With captain Stephen Coniglio, Josh Kelly, Lachie Whitfield, Toby Greene, Nick Haynes and Jeremy Cameron all unavailable after playing in Friday night's bushfire charity match, and Zac Williams also missing, the Giants have plenty of players to fit into next week's team to face Richmond in Wagga Wagga.

Buchanan praised the effort of his younger players after Taranto went down, with highly-rated draftees Tom Green and Lachie Ash particularly good for the winners.

Academy product Green had some jitters early but worked his way strongly into the clash after the first change, finishing with 21 possessions, 15 contested, six clearances and two goals.

"He's a stoppage animal so we love what he's brought to the footy club," Buchanan said.

"He's got really clean hands and an ability to absorb (contact) and dish out (to teammates)."

Fellow top 10 selection Ash was just as impressive playing off half back, with his ability to gain territory with the footy in his hands a standout feature of his game.

He gathered 19 quality disposals and had three rebound 50s against the Swans.

"With 'Ashy', he's shown that he can run and break the lines," Buchanan said.

"He's a pro the kid and he's taken to the AFL environment really well."

Sydney stand-in coach Brett Kirk gave an honest and stinging appraisal of his side's below par showing after the loss.

"There's not much to take out of it, it was an unacceptable performance, and was well below the standard we set for our footy club.

"Whether it's a pre-season game or a Grand Final there's some non-negotiables in footy, and we just didn't get it done.

"We couldn't get the ball back off them and were getting beaten inside and outside, and we needed to dig in, but we weren't able to do that, and it was disappointing.

"If you're looking for a positive, there's a couple weeks before round one so we've got some things to learn.

"We need to take responsibility and move forward.

"There's no magic dust that will switch it quickly, it's just about getting back to work."
