FULL-FORWARD Jonathon Patton has inspired Greater Western Sydney to a 31-point win over Port Adelaide in Canberra.
Patton booted an equal career-high six goals in Saturday's match at UNSW Canberra Oval, with Jeremy Cameron (21 disposals, eight marks and one goal) influential at half-forward.
While the Giants piled on the goals late, the eventual 16.16 (112) to 11.15 (81) score line didn't reflect the true nature of an enthralling contest played in front of a crowd of 9,185.
The Power went to the final change with a four-point lead, the biggest margin at any break during the game.
Toby Greene's third major put GWS back in front early in the final quarter and he added his fourth five minutes later to create a two-goal buffer.
Patton took a strong contested mark at the top of the goal square to help himself to an easy set shot for number five, and when he drew a free kick deep inside 50 two minutes later, he was able to make his sixth the sealer.
Five talking points: Greater Western Sydney v Port Adelaide
Giants coach Leon Cameron said post-match that he's looking forward to the day Patton realises his true potential.
"There's no doubt there's so much more improvement in Jon, he's got to believe in himself and what he can do at AFL level," he said.
"There's still a way to go but his attack on the ball in the first five minutes was exactly what we need, and then he became a focal point and used his marking strength.
"Not everything is going to go your way and you're not always going to hit the scoreboard, it's how you go about it when things aren't going your way.
"He's made some significant ground off the back of some injuries, but there's so much more improvement in him."
Tom Scully was let off the leash, regularly finding space to rack up 32 touches while Dylan Shiel (28) and Josh Kelly (30) were also impressive through the midfield.
Jeremy Cameron brought up his 250th goal in the first quarter, opening up a 15-point lead with the Giants threatening to break the game apart.
But in a sign of things to come, the Power rallied with two late goals, bringing them within three points at the first break.
Jasper Pittard starred for Port Adelaide off half-back with 24 disposals, while skipper Travis Boak was influential with two goals and 21 touches.

Giants defender Heath Shaw left the ground with a leg complaint in the third quarter but returned to play out the game in the forward line, where Patton proved the decisive factor.
Power coach Ken Hinkley said there was still plenty to take out of the loss.
"I think we're playing pretty strongly for most parts of games, and our last two games have been against the teams that people say are the best in the competition, and we've been able to push them, but not be able to beat them," he said.
"There's a lot to learn still for us and a lot to get better at, I mean both of those better teams have beaten us badly in contested ball, and we need to make sure that doesn't happen.
"You can't win big games if you're that far (behind in contested ball), you can lose by a little bit, but you can't get belted up in it, and in the first two weeks we were really strong in that stat.
"Clearly there a domination in the last quarter, but there was a really strong effort for three quarters and the two teams were evenly matched, but to their credit they really did step up when they needed to most."
MEDICAL ROOM
Greater Western Sydney: Dylan Shiel copped a stinger to his right shoulder and Heath Shaw limped off with a sore shin, but both players returned to the field for the Giants and shouldn't be in doubt for next week.
Port Adelaide: The Power looked to have come away without any issues on the injury front.
