THE FINAL six is all but set, but a narrow Collingwood loss in round nine has kept the door ajar for the Western Bulldogs to sneak into finals, should results fall their way.
1. Adelaide
32 points (eight wins, one loss), 203.5 per cent
A low-scoring two point win over Collingwood has narrowed Adelaide’s percentage stronghold at the top of the ladder, but the side comfortably holds a four point buffer on third place. They will round out their home and away season against the Saints.
The run home
R10: St Kilda @ RSEA Park
2022 FIXTURE Every match, every round
2. Melbourne
32 points (eight wins, one loss), 199.1 per cent
The biggest win in competition history, combined with Adelaide’s close win, has put Melbourne within touching distance of first position on the ladder. The Demons head home to Casey Fields to face the up and about Blues to stake their claim on the minor premiership.
The run home
R10: Carlton @ Casey Fields
3. Brisbane
28 points (seven wins, two losses), 197.2 per cent
Brisbane has worked through a condensed fixture and plenty of travel to find itself just outside of the top two. A win in Ballarat this weekend would confirm a home final for the Lions as they look to go back to back.
The run home
R10: Western Bulldogs @ Mars Stadium
4. North Melbourne
24 points (six wins, three losses), 125.3 per cent
North Melbourne’s loss to Brisbane on Sunday sees it fall a game and significant percentage behind third place. A win will all but hand the Kangaroos a home qualifying final, but a loss will likely see them travel in week one of finals.
The run home
R10: West Coast @ Arden Street
2022 FIXTURE Every match, every round
5. Fremantle
24 points (six wins, three losses), 122.5 per cent
Two consecutive losses means the Dockers can no longer make the top two, but they can still earn a home final with a high scoring win, needing a percentage boost to leap past the Kangaroos. The Suns are not easybeats, but there’s certainly a good chance for Fremantle to bounce back this weekend with that home final on the cards.
The run home
R10: Gold Coast @ Fremantle Oval
6. Collingwood
20 points (five wins, four losses), 109.7 per cent
The Magpies are holding onto their finals spot by their fingertips. A win over Richmond on Saturday would solidify their place in finals for the third consecutive year, with an interstate trip in week one a real possibility.
The run home
R10: Richmond @ Victoria Park
7. Western Bulldogs
18 points (four wins, four losses, one draw), 104.6 per cent
While relying on other results to fall their way, the Dogs are still in with a sniff for finals. Should Collingwood lose to Richmond, and Western Bulldogs beat third-placed Brisbane, the extra two points earned in their draw with the Suns will see the Bulldogs sneak into sixth place.
The run home
R10: Brisbane @ Mars Stadium
8. Carlton
16 points (four wins, five losses), 82.6 per cent
Mathematically possible, but unlikely. Carlton would need to win big over the Demons to boost its percentage, and for both Collingwood and Western Bulldogs to lose if they are to make finals this season.
The run home
R10: Melbourne @ Casey Fields
