ORLA O'Dwyer has extra incentive to perform well in Sunday's qualifying final, with her mum and sister making the trip from Ireland to watch her play live for Brisbane for the first time.

Mary and Aine O'Dwyer touch down late on Thursday night to see the star Lion play against Collingwood at the Gabba in a repeat of last year's preliminary final.

They've watched her play Gaelic football and kamogie in Ireland, but this will be the first time with the oval-shaped ball.

"It's so exciting," O'Dwyer beamed on Thursday afternoon.

"They're my No.1 supporters. They've been up at all hours back home to watch games - 2am, 4am, 6am.

"It'll be great to get them here at the Gabba.

"They know all the girls from me living with them and watching the games, so it'll be good for them to meet them and all the staff as well."

O'Dwyer was born in Sydney before moving back to her parents' homeland when she was a toddler. It will be the first time her sister has stepped foot in Australia.

"With COVID the past couple of years they haven't had the opportunity to get over. They're keen as," she said.

"I think just knowing they're there is a big thing. 

"Back home in Ireland mum and dad would come to all my kamogie and football games, so just knowing they're there and proud of me is the biggest thing."

In just her third season playing the sport, O'Dwyer has been a revelation in 2022, averaging 15 disposals, kicking five goals and among the top-five players in the League for average metres gained (348 a game).

Her running power is second to none, able to get to so many contests and help the Lions outnumber their opponents.

The 23-year-old said having the final delayed by a week would help the Lions.

"It's definitely benefitted us," she said.

"We had a few away games (three in a row to finish the season) with a few trips to Melbourne and the Perth trip as well, so it's been a great opportunity to refresh.

"I think we're coming in even hungrier and keen to get out on the Gabba."
