ORLA O'Dwyer has knocked back rival interest to stay at Brisbane.

Carlton was eyeing a surprise swoop for the reigning All-Australian, but O'Dwyer is set to stick with the Lions.

Womens.afl understands the Blues pitched to O'Dwyer as the club looked to add ready-made talent to its developing list, just months after the exciting Irish wing finished a career-best season with the Lions.

As many as six sides registered an interest in O'Dwyer since the conclusion of last season, but rival clubs believed she will either head to Carlton or stay at Brisbane. Expansion side Sydney was also viewed as an outside chance to secure her signature.

O'Dwyer returned to her homeland in Ireland recently to weigh up the rival offers, having averaged a career-best 14.4 disposals to go with 4.2 tackles and six goals from 11 games as the Lions reached the preliminary final last season.

Brisbane has been attempting to stave off interest in a host of its best players this off-season and is set to retain fellow All-Australian Nat Grider, adding her recommitment to that of reigning AFLW best and fairest Emily Bates.

Grider had significant interest from expansion side Sydney, but it's understood she has recently told Brisbane she will stay for next season and beyond. Bates turned down sizeable offers from both Hawthorn and Sydney to remain at the club.

Interest in O'Dwyer comes after her third season in the AFLW, having previously been one of Gaelic football's best talents with Tipperary.

O'Dwyer, who established herself as a key member of Brisbane's 2021 premiership side, has played 29 games across three seasons for the Lions. She was the first Irishwoman to ever feature in an All-Australian team last campaign.

Carlton's interest in O'Dwyer comes after the club lost three-time best and fairest Madison Prespakis and youngster Georgia Gee to expansion side Essendon, with womens.afl also revealing that Nicola Stevens is set to head to St Kilda and Grace Egan to Richmond.

However, the club has secured recommitments from captain Kerryn Harrington and reigning NAB AFLW Rising Star winner Mimi Hill – despite expansion interest from Essendon and Hawthorn respectively – as well as from former No.2 pick Lucy McEvoy.
