THREE-GOAL preliminary final hero Alyssa Bannan had never been to a football match at the MCG before Saturday.

A Carlton supporter growing up, the 19-year-old didn't go to a match at the stadium as a kid, nor had she watched a cricket game at the historic venue.

Her only previous trip to the ground had been the club's Christmas party last year.

"I was a big Carlton supporter, but never came to the MCG to watch a game," Bannan told womens.afl with a laugh.

"Being able to come here and play on it for the first time is amazing, but I've never watched a match here.

"My mind was blown. I had to take five or 10 minutes to just absorb it. Having played at Optus Stadium helped a little, but this was just a whole other level.

"It was absolutely incredible, I did not think we'd ever get this opportunity. To be part of history and the first AFLW game at the MCG is such a great thing to be part of."

Bannan's speed was on show against Brisbane, taking full advantage of the Demons' slingshot footy to out-race her opponents on a number of occasions.

"It's still pretty hard to believe, just being able to have the team put in all their effort and finish it off for them is most rewarding for me. I'm not the one who kicks the goals, it's the team who does it, so I'm very proud of everyone," she said.

"We knew Brisbane would bring the intensity right from the start. I think we only beat them by a few points during the season, and we knew today was going to be similar to that, they were going to give it their all. So we just had to do the same and give it our all back to them. Thankfully, it paid off."

Melbourne will be playing Adelaide in the Grand Final at Adelaide Oval, having lost a preliminary final to the Crows at the same venue last year, and going down by 14 at Norwood Oval in January.

"Last time we played them, we just got a bit lost and a bit ahead of ourselves," Bannan said.

"Now, it's about resetting and seeing how they want to play, and then working on what we didn't do too well last time."
