FLEDGLING AFLW side Hawthorn has suffered a major double blow, with experienced duo Tamara Luke (right ACL) and Lou Stephenson (fractured left ankle) sidelined with serious injuries.
The pair – both members of the leadership group – suffered the injuries in Sunday's loss to St Kilda, with Stephenson incredibly returning to the field after being treated on the bench.
Ruck Luke has been ruled out for the season, while a timeline for key back Stephenson's return will be judged after surgery.
"Unfortunately, scans have confirmed the worst for two of our spirited leaders in Lou and Tam," Hawthorn general manager of operations and AFLW Josh Vanderloo said.
"The club will do all it can to support them through their rehabilitation."
The Hawks now only have 19-year-old Lucy Wales on its list as a recognised ruck, while key position player Tegan Cunningham is capable of providing support if needed.

Cunningham had been playing in defence alongside Stephenson, with Laura Elliott now potentially in the frame for her debut.
Fellow draftee Emily Everist is still a few weeks away with an ankle injury.
