GREATER Western Sydney's Tarni Evans is looking forward to seeing how the introduction of Sydney affects the development of women's football in the state.
Evans – who impressed in defence in the Giants' loss to Brisbane – came through the GWS Academy pathway, having started her footy in Tathra on the south coast of New South Wales.
GWS will take on Sydney at the SCG on Saturday in the first AFLW battle between the state rivals.
AFLW INJURY LIST How healthy is your team?
"It's just so exciting having both teams, it's unreal for the development of the junior pathways, for the New South Wales groups. It's just exciting, it's nice to have Sydney on the map, we're pretty pumped," Evans told Credit to the Girls podcast.
"It'll be nice to see how the junior competitions build from this as well, in their development, and having that extra team, it's going to be fun having the derby.
"The SCG, it's very exciting. I'm pumped, it's going to be awesome, we're all really excited. I can't wait to play the Swans. It'll be a tough game I'm sure, I think it'll be pretty hot at the start and we'll see how it goes, but everyone's really excited, there's good vibes in the group.
"Lisa (Steane, Giant-turned-Swan) still lives with a couple of the girls, so I think there'll be a bit of banter going on at that household at the moment. It'll be fun, it'll be super fun to verse [sic] the girls."
