Changes from last season 

Returning Blue Serena Gibbs and new recruit Phoebe McWilliams look likely to play as the key pillars in Carlton's attack this season, standing at 187cm and 178cm respectively and both adept overhead. Keeley Sherar showed plenty in her debut season to earn a place across half forward and pushing up the field, too. 

Former Pie Amelia Velardo will help to cover some outside run lost with Brooke Walker unavailable early in the season due to rugby commitments, and Lily Goss looks a likely selection to make up for Lucy McEvoy's absence as she works back from a shoulder injury.

Rising Star Mimi Hill and the hard-working Abbie McKay will take control of the midfield now that Maddy Prespakis has moved on, and Maddy Guerin's late season form will hopefully continue as she is likely to earn more minutes through the middle.

In the mix 

Once Walker and McEvoy become available, it is probably Goss and Brooke Vickers who make way, but should they take their opportunities early in the season it could very well throw up some selection headaches for coach Daniel Harford.  

Developing tall forwards Imogen Milford and Mia Austin will put pressure on Gibbs should they prove consistency in the air and reliability in front of goal. And small, agile Poppy Schaap could threaten for a place at the key forwards' feet with Courtney Jones now at the Suns. 

Annie Lee can provide some rebound out of defence and support through the middle, but the likes of Daisy Walker, Velardo and draftee Keeley Skepper look one step ahead thanks to their composure with ball in hand. 

Tall utility Taylor Ortlepp will need to find a position in which she can excel before breaking into the side, especially given the height already on the Blues' list, and defender Jess Jones adds some insurance to the backline should someone become unavailable.
