IT BARELY feels like 30 days since the last AFLW top-30 countdown, but two seasons in one year means twice the opportunity to pull a list together.

As always, the criteria is based on form shown in the previous season, with the All-Australian team, club and AFL best and fairest counts providing some guidance.

Feedback was also sought from some club officials and even a player or two themselves.

This pre-season, womens.afl will reveal the next batch of players every five days (excluding the first out of the blocks).

Apologies in advance for not including every single fan's favourite player, as there are now 540 players to cut down to 30.

No.10 ELLIE BLACKBURN (Western Bulldogs) 

Previous rankings: No.4 2022 S6, No.10 2021, No.10 2020

The Western Bulldogs skipper shook off a COVID-affected start to the year to finish strongly, finishing equal first in the Dogs' best and fairest.

Finishing equal seventh in the AFLW count, Blackburn's clearance work and ability to hit the scoreboard at crucial moments means she's one of the premier mids in the competition.

She averaged 20.1 disposals, 362m gained, 3.1 clearances and kicked 6.8 in 2022.

No.9 JAIMEE LAMBERT (Collingwood) 

Previous rankings: No.25 2022 S6, No.6 2021, No.22 2020

Still sliding somewhat under the radar despite her outstanding performances since 2017, Lambert is a key playmaker in Collingwood's side.

The Pies best and fairest's midfield craft and footy IQ is outstanding, and she should always be the first player watched at a forward stoppage.

Finishing equal seventh in the AFLW best and fairest, the All-Australian averaged 20.3 touches, 6.0 tackles and 4.3 clearances in 2022.

No.8 JASMINE GARNER (North Melbourne) 

Previous rankings: No.3 2022 S6, No.2 2021, No.29 2020

The incomparable Garner had a slower start to the season compared to her lofty standards, but still finished with a bang.

Equally dangerous in the midfield and up forward, the powerful Garner was named All-Australian for the fourth time, finished second in the Roos' best and fairest and equal 10th in the AFLW count.

Garner averaged 20.9 disposals, 10.4 contested possessions, 4.1 marks and kicked 11 goals in 2022.

No.7 MONIQUE CONTI (Richmond) 

Previous rankings: No.10 2022 S6, No.13 2021, No.13 2020

Conti produced yet another consistent season in the midfield for Richmond, finding plenty of the ball and proving to be as elusive as ever.

She averaged 23.9 disposals, 337.1m gained, 15.2 contested possessions and 5.3 clearances in 2022.

Conti took out her third Richmond best and fairest, was named All-Australian and finished equal 10th in the AFLW award.

No.6 KIARA BOWERS (Fremantle) 

Previous rankings: No.2 2022 S6, No.3 2021, No.11 2020

A combination of injury and suspension held Bowers to eight of a possible 12 games in 2022, but she still led the way on the field when selected.

The Dockers superstar was so dominant when playing, she finished sixth in the AFLW best and fairest (although ineligible to win) from six of 10 home and away games.

Her numbers speak for themselves – averaging 22.0 disposals, 13.0 contested possessions, 6.8 clearances and 11.5 tackles – but the limited number of games played made it difficult to rank Bowers any higher.
