FREMANTLE coach Trent Cooper will depart the club after five seasons, the Dockers announced on Monday night.

The Dockers have not offered the senior coach a contract extension.

Freo suffered a disappointing season in season seven, missing out on the finals series after only managing three wins and a draw.

The side was plagued by injuries to key players such as Ebony and Kara Antonio, and had to call on a train-on player in round eight as the injury toll worsened.

Cooper took over the head coach role from inaugural coach Michelle Cowan in 2018, and has led the Dockers to four finals campaigns in his five seasons as coach.

“I have met some special people over my time here and I’m extremely proud of what we have been able to achieve together,” Cooper said in a statement released by Fremantle.

“This is a tough moment for me because I work with an incredible group of people.

“I’m grateful for the support I’ve had along the way, whether that be from the club, fans, our sponsors, the staff, my coaches, my players or my family, and it’s something I will always cherish.”

Fremantle CEO Simon Garlick thanked Cooper for his contribution to the Dockers.

“Trent Cooper will always hold a special place in Club history after guiding our AFLW team to an historic first finals campaign in 2019,” Garlick said.

“In five seasons, Trent took the team to the finals four times which is a significant achievement.

“We thank Trent for his passion and dedication to our Club. 

“He and his wife Josie, along with their children Peyton and Allegra, will always be part of the Freo family."

Fremantle will now begin the search for its next senior coach.
