SILKY Richmond midfielder Monique Conti has been named womens.afl's AFLW Player of the Season.

Conti polled 23 votes across her 10 matches to finish three ahead of tenacious Cat Amy McDonald and four ahead of North Melbourne's Jasmine Garner, who won the AFLCA Champion Player Award earlier this month.

At the conclusion of each match of season seven, the women's.afl reporter or editor assigned to the game awarded their 3-2-1 votes to the players they judge best afield.

At the halfway point of the season, there was a three-way tie between Conti, McDonald and Maddy Prespakis.

Adelaide's Anne Hatchard was two votes off the lead, but her influence waned somewhat in the second half of the season and she finished eight votes behind Conti.

Brisbane's Emily Bates was one further vote back at the halfway point, but she also dropped off the pace.

Garner and Conti both stormed home in the second half of the season, polling 12 votes apiece from their final five matches, with Conti finishing three votes in front.

Only one player from grand finalists Brisbane made the top 10 – Ally Anderson – with no Melbourne players making the cut, testament to the even spread of talent (and thus votes) on both teams.

In the battle of the Prespakis sisters, Essendon's Maddy finished three ahead of Geelong's Georgie, who missed two games through suspension.

The official NAB AFL Women's Best & Fairest Trophy, which is decided by the umpires, will be awarded at the W Awards on Tuesday night.
