"Bella has been in great shape this pre-season and over the past few weeks was looking comfortable among our strong midfield group, so to have her season over before it's even started is devastating for both her and the team," coach Craig Starcevich said.
Taken with pick No.35 in the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft, Smith will now be moved to the Lions' inactive list, with the club able to announce a replacement by August 23.
"It's difficult news for Bella and the club, and the entire AFLW program is heartbroken for her," Brisbane head of women's football Breeanna Brock said.
AFLW FIXTURE Who does your team play in season seven?
"Bella has spent the last few months preparing for her second AFLW season and to have it cut short before it even begins is a cruel blow. Despite her injury, Bella is in good spirits and the club will rally around her and provide her with our full support during her recovery."
Smith joins Gabby Collingwood (ACL) and Maggie Harmer (mental health) on the sidelines for Brisbane in season seven.
