BOOM Sydney recruit Montana Ham and Carlton’s Keeley Skepper have been recognised for their impressive round four performances by receiving NAB AFLW Rising Star nominations.
Ham, 18, was one of the club’s bright lights as she starred in the club's 66-point thumping at the hands of fellow expansion club Port Adelaide.
The young midfielder returned to the side after suffering a right knee ligament strain sustained in round one, showing no signs of rust and maturity beyond her years as she had a team-high 20 disposals, four marks, and laid five tackles.
Ham was selected as the first overall selection in the 2022 NAB AFLW Draft after being a dominant force for both the Western Jets and Vic Metro, catching the eyes of recruiters all around the nation.
Earlier in this year, Ham was named best on ground in Vic Metro's championship win with her ability to win contested football, clean hands, and athleticism on display for all to see.
Versatile Carlton midfielder Keeley Skepper has also been rewarded for her impressive performance in the Blues’ second consecutive draw away to the Dockers.
Skepper has been thrown into a new-look midfield spearheaded by Abbie McKay and Mimi Hill following the departure of superstar Maddy Prespakis who joined rivals Essendon in the off-season.
The young Blue had 14 possessions, three marks and three tackles, showing signs of why the Carlton recruited her with their first pick in the 2022 NAB AFLW Draft with pick No.17.
The 163cm midfielder impressed recruiters while playing for the Murray Bushrangers and Vic Country, being named in the Under 18 All-Australian team whilst also being named as Vic Country’s Most Valuable Player at the National Championships.
Whilst playing for the Murray Bushrangers, she was a prolific ball winner, averaging over 24 disposals, four tackles and four inside 50s across her nine NAB League games.
