SCANS have confirmed Kirsten McLeod has both broken her fibula and suffered a syndesmosis injury in her comeback game from serious concussion issues.

The Western Bulldogs forward had 570 days between games as she battled on-going concussion symptoms, made inactive for the entirety of season six earlier this year.

Heartbreakingly, McLeod suffered her lower leg injury just four minutes into her comeback game against West Coast, when she was caught up in a tackle.

She will have surgery this week and has been ruled out for the season.

In other injury news, three top-line players are in a race against time to prove their fitness for Sunday's crunch game between North Melbourne and Richmond.

Roos skipper Emma Kearney is suffering from knee soreness after colliding with teammate Vikki Wall in the dying minutes of their side's win over Collingwood.

The Tigers have injury headaches of their own, with spearhead Courtney Wakefield (shoulder) and star recruit Eilish Sheerin (thumb) named as tests for this week. The pair played in Tigers' big win over Greater Western Sydney.

Young tall Jemima Woods (illness), skipper Katie Brennan (a permanent test as she manages a foot injury) and ruck Poppy Kelly (ankle injury suffered in round three) are also tests, but Sarah D'Arcy (calf) and Sophie Molan (concussion) have been removed from the injury list.
