A review of Round 6 in the Coates Talent League Girls.
Action returned to Preston City Oval for the first time this season and the Northern Knights made a winning return to their home ground, downing Western Jets by 18 points on Saturday morning. The Knights led by five points at the main break following a low-scoring first half before busting the game open with three unanswered goals in the third term to take a decisive 24-point advantage into the last break. Hannah Scott was a standout for the Knights, picking up 23 disposals and five inside-50s, Isabella Caminiti also impressed and Tahlia Plunkett had a big impact with 23 disposals, five tackles and a goal. Sierra Greaves was outstanding for Western Jets with 36 disposals, keeping her season average at 34 per game. Bella Page provided great drive with seven rebound-50s and Ella Tyson had 16 disposals and five tackles.
Oakleigh Chargers put in a dominant display against fellow unbeaten side Calder Cannons at Warrawee Park. The Chargers kept their visitors scoreless in an 85-point triumph. The victors were consistent across all four quarters, kicking at least three majors in each term. Maiya Stobie played a big hand up forward, kicking her second bag of four for the season to take her season tally to 12. Lily Hart booted three from 14 disposals, while Sienna Tallariti (18 disposals, five rebound-50s), Amy Cariss-Brett (28 disposals, seven inside-50s) and Sarah Poustie (31 disposals, one goal) all provided great contributions. Adalita Pizzinga, Kayley Kavanagh and Maddison Albrecht were the Cannons best on a tough day.
Eastern Ranges remain the competition’s only other unbeaten side with the Chargers after accounting for Sandringham Dragons by 31 points at Kilsyth Recreation Reserve. Sandringham booted the opening goal of the game via Mia Zielinski in the second minute in what proved the only goal of the first term. Alyssia Pisano booted the first three goals of the second term to give the Ranges the ascendancy and from there they were able to maintain the lead for the remainder of the day. Pisano finished with 4.3 and now has kicked 16.9 in four matches in what has been an impressive start to her 2023 campaign. Alana Zappia contributed well, along with Evie Parker and Ava Campbell (22 disposals, seven inside-50s). Sophie McKay had a game-high 24 disposals for Sandringham Dragons and also laid seven tackles. Judie Goldman was also industrious with 22 disposals and six tackles, while Annabelle Embleton offered great drive with nine rebound-50s.
The Coates Talent League Girls competition take a community access period for the next four-weeks to allow players to compete in community, school and representative football.
