NO MATTER if Krstel Petrevski is living in Melbourne or Perth, she knows her hometown of Halls Creek will always be there.

After four games across three injury-hit seasons at Melbourne, Petrevski joined cousin Sam Petrevski-Seton at West Coast during the off-season, the forward returning to her home state.

"It's eight hours inland from Broome, and it’s a small Aboriginal community. My mob, the Kija and Jaru are from up that way. I'm currently living in Perth now, so it's still a four-hour flight to my 'home' home, but it's still very close compared to where I was," Petrevski told Credit to the Girls podcast.

"I always say I'm very lucky, I've always been strongly connected to my family and country and with my culture. For me, it’s the connection and knowing where I'm from and my identity, knowing where I grew up and carrying that with me everywhere I go.

"If you know me, you'll probably hear me say 'Halls Creek' in every sentence I speak, no matter where I am. That comes from being connected really strongly with my upbringing and carrying that with me no matter where I am.

"A big part of that is the support and connections I've had through my upbringing, and when I moved interstate, to still have those strong family ties. I do know a lot of people who do unfortunately disconnect, or find it too hard being away and end up moving home.

"I've always been strongly connected to my family and my land. Home is always home no matter what, and when the time comes, I'll return home or pay a visit, and it'll always be there."
