NORTH Melbourne must help Jasmine Garner be at her best if the star midfielder faces another tag in Saturday's semi-final against Richmond.
Garner, named in the All-Australian squad this week, was held to a season-low 13 disposals when tagged by Meg Macdonald during the draw between the Kangaroos and Tigers in round 10.
The 28-year-old is averaging a career-high 22.7 disposals this season, to go with 4.5 tackles and 5.1 inside 50s, but could face more close checking from Macdonald.
North coach Darren Crocker said his side needed to give its gun midfielder more support if the tag eventuated.
"Richmond put a lot of time into Jas in that game. You just want to see the better players in the competition, whether it's a Jas Garner, whether it's Monique Conti, whether it's an Ellie McKenzie, being able to display their talent," he told reporters.
"As a team, we learned a lot from that game. We can be better at protecting Jas and giving her more opportunities to get into the game.
"She would have learned a lot about herself getting such close attention in that game and potentially what she can do (while being tagged).
"You like to see the better players be able to showcase their talent and, hopefully, we can allow and help Jas do that on the weekend."

When the teams met in round 10, the Tigers kicked three goals to one in the first half before the Roos fought back.
Crocker said his side needed to make a faster start in the semi-final.
"We thought that Richmond caught us on our heels a little bit in that round 10 game, so we've got to make sure that we're up and about early and not give them the ascendancy early in the game," he said.
"From quarter-time on we reset and got the game looking a lot more the way we like it to look. We started to win the territory battle, we started to win the contest a lot more and give ourselves opportunities to score.
"We've got to make sure that we're up for it nice and early, which you'd expect the players to be because with it being a final, there's no excuses for not getting yourself up."
