BRISBANE'S Ally Anderson has been named the AFLW's Best and Fairest for season seven after winning a thrilling count on Tuesday night.

Anderson finished on 21 votes, two ahead of Richmond's Mon Conti with Adelaide's Ebony Marinoff a further vote back.

Remarkably, Anderson didn't make the final cut for this year's All-Australian team, which was announced earlier in the night, and she finished 11th in the AFL Coaches Association AFLW Champion Player.

Teammate Emily Bates, who won last season's award, presented the medal to Anderson at a team function at the Gabba.

In a nail-biting vote count, five players - Anderson, Conti, Marinoff, Greater Western Sydney's Alyce Parker and Essendon's Maddy Prespakis - were within one vote at the top of the leaderboard with two rounds remaining, while four players were still in the race heading into the last round of voting.

Anderson and Conti both picked up three votes in round nine to jump clear of the pack and leave the Lion one in front of the Tigers star heading into the final round.

Conti's two-vote game against North Melbourne in Round 10 temporarily moved her in front, but Anderson's 26-possession performance against Collingwood in the final round of the home-and-away season was enough to seal the win by two votes.

It was Anderson's third three-vote game in a row to finish the season.

A shocked Anderson was lost for words after being declared the winner, but dedicated the win to her teammates.

"I'm in disbelief right now," she said.

"Thank you to my team, you make me a better player and together we make each other better players. I absolutely love playing with you all."

The award comes off the back of a career-best season for the prolific midfielder, who gathered an average 21.8 disposals, 5.1 tackles and 5.1 clearances per game, including a career-high 31 disposals and 10 clearances in the Lions' round nine 54-point win over Hawthorn.

Anderson began her football journey at the Zillmere Eagles on Brisbane's northside, where she says she first fell in love with the game.

"I started playing in Year 12 for the Eagles, after following in my big sister's footsteps and I've never looked back," she said.

"Footy for me has been such an incredible journey, it brought me to the Brisbane Lions and has taken me to places that I never expected, like winning this award."

The Lions star received the award via video link as she enjoyed the night with her teammates in Brisbane ahead of this weekend's Grand Final against Melbourne.

Asked if she had any inkling she might win, Anderson replied "Not even a little bit."

"My speech wasn't very prepared, I probably didn't sound great on stage, but I just had absolutely no idea," she said.

It is an unexpected distraction for Anderson ahead of Sunday's grand final against Melbourne at the Lions' new Springfield headquarters.

"I will have to move on pretty fast because my main focus is the grand final," Anderson said.
