SYDNEY has scored another Priority Signing Period coup, landing Carlton defender Lucy McEvoy.

Womens.afl understands the 21-year-old has committed to the Swans, informing the Blues of her decision on Monday.

The former No.2 draft pick has played 33 games for Carlton over four seasons, and while she settled into a role behind the footy last year, is also capable of running through the midfield or up forward.

McEvoy – the cousin of former Hawthorn captain Ben – dominated her junior career, named under-18 All-Australian on four occasions, across all three lines.

She was named in Carlton's leadership group for season seven.

The Blues' recent instability, losing both coach and head of footy after an external review into the program, is understood to have counted against the club when making the decision to move.

Carlton is now unable to lose any further players through the PSP period, having finished in the bottom half of the ladder, and any compensation will be in the form of picks for the draft ahead of the 2024 season, when top-age juniors are added back into the pool.

The Swans sensationally landed former No.3 pick in ex-Pie Chloe Molloy at the start of the PSP, and while they have another three spots on offer, are understood to now be looking to Irish talent.

Womens.afl has previously reported Sydney is the front-runner for 19-year-old Paris McCarthy from Kerry, who has played Gaelic football as well as basketball for East Tennessee State University in the US on a scholarship.

The PSP period closes on Wednesday at 2pm AEDT.
