INAUGURAL Brisbane Lions player Sharni Webb and young forward Luka Yoshida-Martin's seasons are over before they began after both suffered serious injuries at training.

Yoshida-Martin, 22, tore her ACL, while 31-year-old Webb ruptured her Achilles tendon.

The former played three games in her debut season in the first half of 2022, but couldn't break through in season seven.

Given fellow small forward Greta Bodey's off-season move to Hawthorn, the 2023 season loomed as one where Yoshida-Martin could have stamped her claim on a spot in the best 21.

Webb – who has already undergone surgery – has played 31 games since debuting in Brisbane's inaugural squad, taking the 2021 season off to give birth to daughter Billie.

The utility has played both forward and back in her time at the Lions, as well as some time in the ruck in the early days of AFLW.

DRAFT ANALYSIS What each selection means for your club

"Sharni and Luka are valuable assets to our group and their presence will definitely be missed out on the track," Brisbane head of women's footy Breanna Brock said.

"To miss a season is never ideal but everyone at the club will be supporting them through their recovery and that will be our focus.

"The club will work through their options over the coming weeks."

The Lions are able to move the duo to the inactive list and sign replacement players before round one at the start of September.

The AFLW pre-season will officially kick off at the end of May, with players around the country having been taking part in voluntary training sessions over the off-season.
