UNDER-18 All Australian captain Lucy McEvoy has nominated the Melbourne metro portion of the NAB AFLW Draft, despite playing for Geelong Falcons in the under-18 NAB League.

The choice of draft zone – made in part to accommodate her study next year – has sent waves through AFLW clubs, with list managers suddenly rearranging their draft order to accommodate for the highly talented 18-year-old.

At this stage, McEvoy is now expected to fall within the top three Melbourne metro picks (held by Western Bulldogs, Carlton and St Kilda), along with key forward Gabby Newton (Northern Knights) and electric winger Georgia Patrikios (Calder Cannons).

McEvoy, the cousin of Hawthorn's Ben, is a true utility, capable of playing in a key position or as a big-bodied midfielder.

She has grown up in Wallington, near Ocean Grove, and played her junior footy most recently with St Mary's, alongside current Cats Nina Morrison and Olivia Purcell.

McEvoy has also played for Geelong's VFLW side on five occasions this year, named in the best in two of those games, including a best-on effort against Melbourne Uni.

The AFLW Draft is split into states to allow footballers to elect which area suits them best in relation to their study (in the case of McEvoy) and work, given the competition is not yet full-time.

Further to that, the Queensland and Victorian pools are further divided into zones, with the southern state separated into Melbourne metro (all sides excluding the Cats), Geelong and the whole of Victoria (all teams).

McEvoy has earned three consecutive under-18 All Australian nods, named in the back pocket in 2017, full forward in 2018 and in the centre this year.

She was named Vic Country's MVP at the conclusion of this year's NAB AFLW under-18 championships.

The Cats are also expected to draft highly touted full-back Millie Brown as a father-daughter selection this year, with her father Paul having played 84 games for the club during the 1990s.
