WE'RE already a quarter of the way through the season, so here's what happened in round two of the 2020 NAB AFLW competition.

• Adelaide 6.4 (40) def St Kilda 4.3 (27). Once again, the highest scoring match was in the last timeslot, with a free-flowing, uncontested affair at Hisense Stadium.

WESTERN BULLDOGS 2.0 (12) lost to MELBOURNE 4.8 (32)

• In a game played in horribly wet conditions, Melbourne's class on the outside and composure in packs proved to be the difference. The Demons recorded 35 more uncontested possessions than the Dogs.
• For the vast majority of the match, the Bulldogs' sole score had come courtesy of a 50m penalty after Irish recruit Sinead Goldrick didn't return the ball on the full. However, they did outscore the Demons in the final quarter, one goal to nothing.

NORTH MELBOURNE 6.1 (37) def GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY 2.7 (19)

• North Melbourne's finishing skills were on show, keeping them at bay and slowly pulling away as the match progressed. Jasmine Garner has made an early claim for the AFLW best and fairest medal with another dominant performance in the midfield.
• The Giants will be ruing more than one missed opportunity, spraying several simple shots at goal, which would have significantly upped the pressure on the Kangaroos. They also laid only 46 tackles, the second-lowest team tally this round.

GOLD COAST 5.3 (33) def RICHMOND 2.10 (22)

• Gold Coast withstood a fast-finishing but inaccurate Richmond to record its first ever win the AFLW. Jamie Stanton (20 disposals, one goal) shook off a shoulder injury and the close attention of Katie Brennan to star for the Suns.
• Goalkicking practice will definitely be on the agenda at Punt Road this week after five behinds in the final quarter. Grace Campbell made an impressive debut, but the Tigers will be disappointed to have recorded 19 fewer tackles than the Suns, despite being behind for the vast majority of the match.

WEST COAST 2.3 (15) lost to FREMANTLE 9.6 (60)

• Fremantle's game plan is simple but deadly. Win it out of the middle, get quickly forward with a series of short kicks, and get it inside 30 metres where the dangerous quartet of Gemma Houghton, Sabreena Duffy, Roxy Roux and Gabby O'Sullivan wait. It'll be a decent team who manages to stop them.
• In a rare positive for West Coast, the team managed to match the rampaging Fremantle in raw disposal numbers (155 to 159), but just coughed the ball up way too many times under the extreme Docker pressure.

GEELONG 3.2 (20) lost to BRISBANE 6.3 (39)

• Geelong – led well by a young brigade of Olivia Purcell, Millie Brown, Nina Morrison and Becky Webster (all 19 years old) – dominated proceedings in the first half, but were unable to keep up with Brisbane when they lifted the pressure after the main break.
• Brisbane's surprisingly sparkling start to the season continues, built off the back of fierce pressure and ball control. The Lions sit third overall in the competition for total marks, second for effective kicks, and most importantly, have been accurate in front of goal.

CARLTON 3.6 (24) lost to COLLINGWOOD 6.3 (39)

• Collingwood is now sitting in comparatively rarefied air, having never before won its first two matches or defeated Carlton. Britt Bonnici's reputation as a tagger who wins her own footy was boosted with a solid job on Maddy Prespakis, while Sarah D'Arcy was the conduit creating most of the side's goals.
• Carlton looked off the pace from the opening bounce, struggling to link up with its potent forward line. Darcy Vescio swapped with Lucy McEvoy into the middle in the fourth quarter in an attempt to provide sparks on both lines, but to no avail.

ADELAIDE 6.4 (40) def ST KILDA 4.3 (27)

• It was heartbreak for expansion side St Kilda, holding the reigning premiers at bay until the 15-minute mark of the fourth quarter. In a relatively uncontested game, 19-year-old Tarni White (18 disposals, 10 marks) read the ball well, while Georgia Patrikios (18) once again looked a class above.
• It's quite a different Adelaide side these days, with a host of top-line players in the rehab group. Fourteen of the 21 who took the field against the Saints were premiership players, but it was the likes of first-game tall Caitlin Gould (four contested marks, one goal) and draftee Madison Newman who got the Crows over the line at the end. A recruit by the name of Courtney Gum (the 2018 AFLPA MVP) wasn't half-bad, either.
