IT MAY HAVE been last March, but Fremantle's preliminary final loss in 2019 has been motivating the team in its unbeaten start to the year.
The Dockers saw off contender North Melbourne in a virtual elimination final in round seven last year, before the tired and battered side crashed out to Carlton in the preliminary final the following week.
Defender Ange Stannett told the Credit to the Girls podcast the loss still lingers.
"[For] players who were there last year, they're the games you never forget," Stannett said.
"It's interesting when you think of those games and those losses, you don't want to feel that again. That's a really good driver for us this season.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT A snapshot of round four
"For the girls who weren't there, they've come into a team where we're constantly trying to improve and we're constantly trying to build.
"We never want to settle, and we don't want to get complacent. I think a lot of that comes off the back of the season we had last year. It's been really good to use that as a reference to … grow high standards for us this season."
