THE NEXT generation of AFLW talent will be on show as the 2023 Under-16 National Development Championships kick off.

Throughout the championships 10 different teams will compete, playing two games each. The sides have been split into two different pools, and the teams who finish atop their pool's ladder will be named title winners.

Pool A features the best talent from South Australia, Western Australia, Victoria Country and Victoria Metro, while Pool B includes the four northern academies – Gold Coast, Sydney, Brisbane and GWS – along with the Northern Territory and Tasmania.

It all begins with a triple header at Bond University in Queensland on Tuesday, where each Pool B team will play.

The Northern Territory's Marika Carlton is a player to watch. Fresh off a remarkable season with the Palmerston Magpies in the NTFL, Carlton won both the under-16s and under-18s league best and fairests.

Still just 15 years old, she was also part of both the U16 and U18 premierships, winning both Grand Final best-on-ground medals in the process.

The Championships kick off at 10am AEST on Tuesday, and run until April 30, and all will be livestreamed via womens.afl.
