Victoria Metro has announced its 30-player squad for the 2023 AFL National Championships – U18 Girls.

The AFL National Championships – U18 Girls features the country’s most talented under 18 girls footballers, with matches played across Australia.

The Championships feature six teams, with Victoria Metro to compete against Queensland, South Australia, Victoria Country, Western Australia and the Allies – made up of players from NSW/ACT, Northern Territory and Tasmania. All teams will play three matches.

The Championships began in April, with South Australia claiming a 35-point win over Western Australia at Pentanet Stadium in the opening match. All remaining games will be played throughout July and August.

Victoria Metro will commence its campaign on Sunday, July 2 when it takes on the Allies in the first game of a double-header at Brighton Homes Arena.

The match will commence at 11:30am and will be followed by a clash between the Allies and Victoria Metro in the 2023 AFL National Championships – U18 Boys.

Following the clash with the Allies, Victoria Metro will face off against South Australia on Sunday, July 9 before taking on Victoria Country on Saturday, August 13.

Victoria Metro’s squad features players from the six Coates Talent League metropolitan talent programs, being Calder Cannons, Eastern Ranges, Northern Knights, Oakleigh Chargers, Sandringham Dragons and Western Jets.

The squad features five players who were part of the 2023 AFL Academy Girls program. They include Alyssia Pisano, Laura Stone, Jess Vukic, Kristie-Lee Weston-Turner and Kiera Whiley.

Six members of the Victoria Metro squad also featured for the U23 All-Stars team that defeated the AFL Academy Girls team by two points in a talent showcase at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

Northern Knights girls head coach Allana Dickie will coach Victoria Metro at this year’s Championships.
