2019 in a nutshell: After playing in the Grand Final the previous two years, last season was one of rebuilding. The Lions blooded plenty of teenagers and after a 2-2 start the round five home loss to Geelong sent the season spiralling. They still had a chance to sneak into the finals entering the last round, but finishing fourth of five teams in their conference was reflective of a tough season.

Player to watch: After an excellent debut season in 2018, Sophie Conway missed last year with a ruptured ACL. The clever forward is back fitter than ever and could have a big impact on Brisbane's fortunes.

2020 prediction: The Lions again had their list decimated by the competition's expansion, forcing them to go younger again. There's no expectation for them to seriously challenge for the premiership, but Starcevich's team has made a habit of punching above their weight and you could again watch for them to challenge for finals.
