COLLINGWOOD may have lost this week, but its performance was such it has risen to second in womens.afl's AFLW power rankings.

The Magpies are not the only team to have jumped up the ranks, with North Melbourne and Adelaide moving up two places each.

With the competition split into two conferences, it's interesting to bring the two pools together to get a gauge on how the teams stack up against each other.

However, this isn't a simple combining of the ladders. It's an attempt to place a subjective value on the wins and losses to ascertain just who is the strongest team at this point in time.

1. Fremantle (first in Conference B, 3-0, 187.7%, ranking last week: 1st)
The only undefeated team in the competition, Fremantle showed enormous heart to hold off a dogged Collingwood. The Dockers face their first game out of Western Australia this week.

2. Collingwood (second in Conference B, 2-1, 157.4%, ranking last week: 4th)
Have risen up the rankings on the back of a very impressive performance, albeit a loss, against the front-runner of the competition in Fremantle. Having won every major statistical category except tackles and the scoreboard, the Pies are the real deal.

3. North Melbourne (second in Conference A, 2-1, 218.0%, ranking last week: 5th)
The Kangaroos have jumped a few places after flexing the muscle we all knew they had. The only asterisk comes from playing a poor Richmond side, but the size of the win will come in handy down the track.

4. Brisbane (first in Conference A, 2-0-1, 146.4%, ranking last week: 2nd)
Will be disappointed to lose two points in the first QClash against an expansion team, but the Lions are still sitting very comfortably with 10 points. Should bank another win against GWS, but then a tough fortnight against Fremantle and Collingwood will work out just where the Lions sit.

5. Adelaide (fourth in Conference A, 2-1, 111.1%, ranking last week: 7th)
In ominous words for the rest of the competition, the Crows are coming. Players are gradually returning from injury, and they're nicely poised outside the top three in Conference A. Accuracy in front of goal has been a nice bonus.

6. Melbourne (fourth in Conference B, 2-1, 133.3%, ranking last week: 3rd)
Unfortunately for the Dees, they're in familiar territory, outside the top three by percentage. The difference between themselves and Adelaide is an injury list that doesn't look like drastically shortening any time soon. Friday night was a very costly loss, and goal-kicking accuracy is a big issue.

7. Carlton (third in Conference B, 2-1, 148.2%, ranking last week: 6th)
Did well against the Western Bulldogs, but it wasn't a comprehensive win by any stretch. Youngsters have looked good, but older players have been a little inconsistent. Huge test this week in the Grand Final rematch against Adelaide.

8. Greater Western Sydney (third in Conference A, 2-1, 118.6%, ranking last week: 9th)
A gradual rise for GWS, recording its second-biggest win and fourth-highest score against West Coast. The Giants have done what they have needed to do, with a final layer of polish still needed at times.

9. Gold Coast (fifth in Conference A, 1-1-1, 116.9%, ranking last week: 10th)
Plucky, tenacious, fierce – there's plenty of positive words to describe the inexperienced Gold Coast. Did very well to hold the high-flying Brisbane to a draw and have unveiled some promising prospects over the past few weeks. North Melbourne will be a tough challenge.

10. St Kilda (sixth in Conference B, 1-2, 64.5%, ranking last week: 11th)
It wasn't a pretty game against Melbourne, but the club wouldn't have cared how it got its first AFLW points in the bank. They'll be inconsistent at times, but Caitlin Greiser and Georgia Patrikios are a lot of fun to watch.

11. Western Bulldogs (fifth in Conference B, 1-2, 83.5%, ranking last week: 8th)
Sit just above St Kilda on the ladder and beat them in round one, but on current form, the Saints have the wood over the Dogs. It's a young and thus uneven side at Footscray at the moment, but there's been some nice passages of play along the way.

12. Geelong (sixth in Conference A, 0-3, 65.2%, ranking last week: 12th)
Geelong has improved week on week, but still can't get those four points in the bank after a tough opening few rounds. Finals look to be a stretch, but will be hoping the draw opens up somewhat with games against Richmond, Gold Coast and GWS to come.

13. West Coast (seventh in Conference B, 0-3, 28.6%, ranking last week: 14th)
There's a big gap between Geelong and the 13th and 14th-placed sides in the power rankings. The Eagles desperately need to find more paths to goal, but to their credit, didn't let the game blow out in the final term.

14. Richmond (seventh in Conference A, 0-3, 35.7%, ranking last week: 13th)
A second-half fightback would have pleased Tom Hunter, but the 56-point loss is still the fourth-largest in AFLW history. Goal-kicking accuracy is a big concern, but a match against fellow winless side Geelong is an easier prospect than North Melbourne.
