CRAIG Starcevich is back at work and will coach Brisbane's NAB AFL Women's team against Greater Western Sydney on Sunday after overcoming a heart scare.

Starcevich missed the Lions' draw against Gold Coast at the weekend after being admitted to hospital with a heart arrhythmia last Friday.

The 52-year-old was released on Saturday and spent the next three days recovering at his home on the Sunshine Coast. 

He returned to work on Tuesday and led the Lions' training session on Wednesday night

Lions CEO Bree Brock told womens.afl Starcevich had an elevated heart rate after suffering dehydration from a bike ride. 

"His heart rate wasn't coming down so they gave him some medication and he's perfectly fine now," Brock said. 

"He was back at training last night, in really high spirits and feeling very positive and excited." 

Brock paid credit to the club's assistant coaches, led by Daniel Merrett, who filled in for Starcevich – but said going to Metricon Stadium without the club's inaugural coach was like "going to school without my big brother". 

"It's not something we want to go through again, but it was a good learning experience for the players and coaches to not have 'Starce' around," she said. 

Brisbane hosts GWS at Hickey Park on Sunday at 4.10pm AEST.
