WHILE AFLW is all about the team game, sometimes individual players rise above everyone to stamp their authority on the game. So, what were the five best individual performances of AFLW season seven?
5. Hannah Ewings (Port Adelaide) – round four v Sydney
In Port Adelaide's maiden win, and Hannah Ewings' fourth career game, the teenager played one of the all-time great games.
Always running hard, Ewings registered 417 metres gained from 19 disposals, laid eight tackles and sent the ball inside 50 five times. On top of this, she became the first AFLW player in history to record three or more goals and nine or more clearances in a single game.
Her ability to win the hard ball has been a wonderful asset for Port Adelaide all season, but the extra layer Ewings offers is her positioning around the ground as an outlet for teammates, and that was on show against the Swans.
4. Georgie Prespakis (Geelong) – round four v North Melbourne
On a day where everyone was splashing around on the wet deck of UTAS Stadium, Georgie Prespakis looked like she was playing with a dry ball.
Winning 32 disposals, Prespakis remarkably used the ball at 81.3 per cent efficiency, the third highest of any player to register 30 or more touches in a game. From those 32 disposals she registered 464 metres gained, drove the ball forward six times and also won six clearances.
But it wasn't just her ability to win the ball that stood out, the defensive side of Prespakis' game was also on show, with nine tackles and 10 intercepts.
3. Chelsea Randall (Adelaide) – round six v Port Adelaide
In the first AFLW Showdown, it was Adelaide captain Chelsea Randall who showed the footy world exactly what she is made of, rightly winning the Shwdown medal.
Kicking the first two goals of the game, Randall ended the game with three to go with her 27 disposals, five inside 50s, seven clearances and nine score involvements – all career bests for the veteran. Randall also took an intercepting Mark of the Year contender in a desperate flight across a pack at half-back.
She bolstered the midfield group, reliably sending the ball forward, while also presenting as an option up forward in a truly unstoppable performance.
2. Jasmine Garner (North Melbourne) – round eight v Port Adelaide
After expansion team Port Adelaide got the fast start against North Melbourne, Jasmine Garner's leadership and drive saw the Kangaroos take the game back to ultimately win by 25 points.
Garner won 27 disposals, importantly using the ball at 77.8 per cent efficiency, took nine marks, kicked two goals, and registered a whopping 717 metres gained – the second most in competition history.
The five-time All-Australian played more of an outside role, moving the ball in space and offering a conduit into attack, supporting the Roos' inside midfielders like Jenna Bruton, Ash Riddell and Mia King.
1. Kiara Bowers (Fremantle) – round 10 v Hawthorn
Dockers star Kiara Bowers capped off a stellar back half of the season with a record-breaking performance against Hawthorn in the final round of the season.
Setting a new tackle record with 22, Bowers also became the first player in AFLW history to register 15 or more tackles and 30 or more disposals in a game, with 34 touches.
Added to this, Bowers won eight clearances and six intercepts, proving to be the engine room driving Fremantle's third win of the season to see off inaugural captain Kara Antonio into retirement.
