2019 in a nutshell: The Dockers won six of their seven games in the regular season to finish second in Conference A. However, they were no match for Carlton in their preliminary final, losing by 36 points at Ikon Park.

New players: Mia-Rae Clifford, Janelle Cuthbertson, Kate Flood, Sarah Garstone, Ann McMahon, Emma O'Driscoll, Lindal Rohde, Roxanne Roux, Mim Strom, Aine Tighe, Bianca Webb

Notable departures: Ashlee Atkins, Melissa Caulfield, Kellie Gibson, Dana Hooker, Alicia Janz, Parris Laurie

Inactive players: None

2020 opponents: Geelong (h), West Coast (a), Collingwood (h), St Kilda (a), Brisbane (h), Western Bulldogs (a), Melbourne (h), Carlton (a)

Circle it: The first-ever AFLW Western Derby against cross-town rivals and competition newcomers West Coast at Optus Stadium in round two will be a historic occasion.

Player to watch: Irish recruit Aine Tighe fills the ruck void at the Dockers. At 185cm, she's athletic, covers the ground well and should pick up the game quickly.

Best Rising Star chance: Roxanne Roux

2020 prediction: Losing half a dozen players to West Coast, including former club champion Dana Hooker, is a blow, but the Dockers will still be competitive. Will be tough to beat, especially at home. Landing in Conference B and avoiding Adelaide is a bonus. The two Irish recruits are their wildcards.
