RICHMOND has added a further three players to its squad for 2021, recruiting Collingwood duo Sarah D'Arcy and Sarah Dargan, and Melbourne full-back Harriet Cordner. 

Womens.afl understands the paperwork was lodged on Tuesday afternoon, with the Tigers giving up picks 17 (ultimately landing at Melbourne, via Collingwood), 31 and 45 (both Collingwood) in return.

West Coast also made a significant addition to its midfield, adding Aisling McCarthy from the Western Bulldogs in return for pick 16, the Eagles' "competition assistance" selection which had to be on-traded.

Picks two and three also swapped as part of the deal, meaning the Dogs will now take the second selection both overall and in the Victorian pool, while the Eagles now have pick three overall but maintain the first selection in the Western Australian pool.

The move ensures no other Victorian club can now jump between the Bulldogs and Richmond (at pick one) by trading with the Eagles.

McCarthy took her game to a whole new level in 2020, moving from the forward line to the midfield and finishing fourth in the club's best and fairest. She had told the club she wished to move to Western Australia.

West Coast also announced Irish sisters Grace and Niamh Kelly have signed two-season deals, the pair having played all six games in their first season of football up forward and in the midfield respectively.

A hard-running forward, the 28-year-old D'Arcy has kicked 10 goals in 24 games for the Magpies and was an inaugural player for the club.

Dargan, 21, is an improving midfielder who played 14 games for Collingwood over three seasons. 

D'Arcy and Dargan will be joining yet another new "Sarah" at Punt Road, with former Blue Sarah Hosking signing a two-season deal yesterday.

Hosking and D'Arcy were involved in an ugly incident back in round one, 2018, which saw D'Arcy suspended for two weeks for kicking Hosking (watch the incident in the player below), but the pair will now be teammates. 

Cordner, 28, has been a mainstay of Melbourne's defence after joining in 2017 as an other-sport rookie (soccer). She also rucked at times for the Dees in 2020 in the absence of injured players.

Melbourne is bracing itself for a list turnover and has lost its second player of the trade period, with speedster Aliesha Newman crossing to Collingwood.

The Dees also gave up pick 11 to the Magpies, and received pick 10 and 17 (ostensibly for Cordner, having come from Richmond) in return.

The lively forward, who has kicked 11 goals in 25 games over four seasons, won the Coates Hire Goal of the Year in 2018.

In other news, both the VFLW Super Series and the NAB League Girls' seasons have been cancelled due to the increase of Victorian restrictions around COVID-19.

AFL Victoria said it was currently exploring opportunities to help provide VFLW players exposure before the NAB AFLW Draft (a date for which has not been set), including remote interviews and testing.

Three rounds of the NAB League Girls' competition was completed in March before the season was postponed. No premiership will be awarded, but a team of the year will be announced and players will be supported in the lead-up to the draft.
