IT WAS set to be one of the crimes of the century.

In a round five match in the SANFL Statewide Super Women's League between North Adelaide and Sturt in June, midfielder Anne Hatchard sizzled with a 42 possession game to set a league record and steer the Roosters to a big 12.11 (83) to 1.0 (6) victory.

However, on Friday (August 28), the day of the SANFLW best and fairest, Hatchard (who is a star for Adelaide in the AFLW) did not receive a vote for her herculean efforts from the officiating field umpires

Hatchard's Roosters teammate, Alex Fitridge, did get votes.

In fact, Fitridge was awarded the maximum three votes for her three-possession game. Both Fitridge and Hatchard were wearing long sleeves during the match.

Yes ... cue the rage, call in the crime squad.

Fortunately, the rage was shortlived for the SANFL was swift to act.

It quickly confirmed a voting mix-up had occurred. Hatchard was awarded three votes and duly named joint 2020 SANFLW best and fairest alongside West Adelaide's Rachelle Martin.

SANFL football manager Matt Duldig said: "The clear intent from the umpires on the day was to award three votes to Anne and, on that basis, it was only fair that a genuine error which was made aware to us be corrected and that Anne be rightfully honoured for her tremendous season in the SANFL Statewide Super Women's League."

Hatchard, also the 2020 Crows AFLW club champion, polled three votes from each of her remaining four minor round appearances in SANFLW to tie with Martin.

Duldig said: "Anne shone in every game in the competition this season and, together with Rachelle Martin, is a very deserving winner of the league's highest honour." 

Hatchard also shared the KIA Coaches' Award with Martin, polling 48 votes each.

Duldig confirmed Hatchard would be presented with the B&F medal and that both winners would receive the $1000 cash prize and a financial planning session.
