2019 in a nutshell: A season the Magpies would prefer to forget after a campaign that never gathered momentum. Finished on the bottom of Conference B and were the worst-performed AFLW team after losing their first six games (they still haven't won a game inside the first three rounds), including three by single-figure margins, only saluting in the final round with a six-point win over Brisbane.

2020 prediction: The Magpies will finally break the shackles and make the AFLW finals for the first time. Inaugural coach Wayne Siekman has been replaced by the experienced Steve Symonds, who spent the previous three years setting up the women's program at SANFL club Norwood. The Woods, who won this year's VFLW premiership, will be boosted considerably by a raft of recruits, particularly ex-Carlton star Davey.
