THE 2020 NAB AFL Women's competition has drawn to a close, but for those feeling like there was a lack of finality to it, we've got something that might help.
There's always players who miss out on recognition for their brilliant seasons, so here's a few out of the box categories to reflect on some of the greatness we saw across the year.
Best international player
Collingwood's Sarah Rowe took a huge step in 2020, lifting her average disposals from 10 per game to 15. The Pie had fierce competition from Cora Staunton, Aisling McCarthy and Sinead Goldrick to take this award out.
Most improved player
Britt Bonnici from Collingwood has improved out of sight, going from 13 disposals per game in 2019 all the way up to 20 this year.
Best on social media
This award should be handed to Darcy Vescio every year until she retires, and then after that it should be named the Darcyvee award. The 'Imagine' music video was simply incredible and shoutout to Meg McDonald for the tackle at the end.
The sharpshooter
Carlton's Georgia Gee just does not miss. The Blues forward kicked eight goals and zero behinds for the year in a superb effort.
Who don't you want to get in a race with?
Saint Kate McCarthy would normally get the nod here, but Melbourne's Kate Hore stunned everyone with this incredible goal and rightfully earns this award.
Best defender
This was probably the hardest category, with Kerryn Harrington and Jade Pregelj very stiff. Brisbane's Kate Lutkins consistently found plenty of the football and was able to lock down players every single week.
Best ruck
Collingwood's Sharni Layton was a standout around the ground, finding much more of the footy and even hitting the scoreboard. Collingwood's midfielders received silver service from the second-year player.
Best midfielder
We're going to cheat over the next two categories – sorry! Collingwood midfielder Jaimee Lambert has arguably been the best player this year, but Jasmine Garner is also right in that discussion. Let's give the midfield award to Lambert.
Best forward
Surprise! It's Garner. With eight goals for the year and an average of 20 disposals per game, there's no one in the competition that could stop the Kangaroo in 2020.
Who you want taking a kick for goal to win the game
Gee, Danielle Ponter and Kalinda Howarth deserve a mention, but Jordan Membrey has kicked 10 goals without a behind for her career. You can't do much better than that.
Plays above their height
Pepa Randall at 172cm takes on the biggest forwards every week for the Giants and rarely gets beaten.
Coach of the year
It would be unfair to hand anyone else this award, given Trent Cooper guided the Dockers to an unprecedented 7-0 season. Scott Gowans and Daniel Harford deserve consideration.
Recruit of the season
Monique Conti, Dana Hooker and Jamie Stanton were all excellent pick-ups, but this one has to go to Melbourne defender Libby Birch. She finished in the top five for intercept possessions and took her game to another level after switching from the Bulldogs.
Not slowing down anytime soon
Some of the veterans in this league might joke that they're getting too old, but Cora Staunton, Stacey Livingstone and our winner Karen Paxman are definitely not slowing down. The Melbourne midfielder put together arguably her best all-around year ever.
Position change of the year
Moving Daisy Pearce to half-back was a shrewd move from Mick Stinear and the Demons, but Izzy Huntington deserves this award after becoming arguably the best interceptor in the League.
