THE AFL is pleased to announce the fixture for Round Six of the 2021 NAB AFL Women's Competition which will kick off with Richmond hosting North Melbourne in a Friday night match at the Swinburne Centre on March 5.

AFL General Manager Women's Football Nicole Livingstone said the league would continue to take the advice of governments and health officials and work closely with each stakeholder across the competition as it worked through fixtures for upcoming rounds.

"We will continue to remain adaptable as we listen to and work closely with each stakeholder to ensure the best possible outcome for everyone in the game," Livingstone said.

"While COVID-19 continues to impact the community, the health and welfare of our players and the community remains the priority and we remain committed to delivering a full season in a safe manner led by respective governments, public health officials and medical experts.

"The round six fixture will see the league continue to best manage the risks around COVID by minimising travel where possible and ensuring minimal disruption for the competition as we navigate the 2021 season."

Round six will see one return match fixtured with the West Coast Eagles to host Fremantle at 4:40pm AEDT on Sunday March 7 in the second WA Derby for the AFLW to be played at Optus Stadium. The match is also the first Derby double-header at the venue with the men’s teams scheduled to play at 7:10pm AEDT on the same day as part of the 2021 AAMI Community Series.

Supporters were unable to attend the round two NAB AFLW match between the two WA sides due to COVID-restrictions in place at the time.

"We look forward to supporters being able to safely attend Optus Stadium for the WA Derby double-header which will no doubt add another chapter to the already-fierce rivalry between the two Western Australian clubs," Livingstone said.

"While relocation of teams was strongly considered, through close and continued consultation and feedback from players, the AFLPA and clubs, the decision to proceed with a return match was deemed to be the best option for the competition at this stage of the season.

"On behalf of the AFL, I want to again thank all clubs, players and the AFLPA, umpires, venues, governments and our broadcast and commercial partners for their understanding and continued support of the NAB AFL Women’s Competition. I also want to acknowledge the ongoing support from the AFLW football community this season through memberships, attendances and broadcasts."

Crowds will be permitted at all matches in round six unless otherwise advised.
