South Australia claimed the 2023 AFL National Championships – U18 Girls title after producing an unbeaten run across its three matches.

The Championships were contested by six teams, with South Australia taking out the title from Queensland, Western Australia, Victoria Metro, Victoria Country and the Allies, which comprised talent from the Northern Territory, New South Wales/ACT and Tasmania.

Each team played three matches at the Championships, with games played across the country between April and August.

South Australia defeated Western Australia at Pentanet Stadium in the opening game of the Championships before claiming victories against Victoria Metro at Avalon Airport Oval and Queensland at Adelaide Oval to finish as the only undefeated team.

A host of the most exciting young female footballers in the country helped steer South Australia to the title, including 2023 AFL Academy Girls representatives Molly Brooksby, Shineah Goody, Elaine Grigg, Piper Window and Lauren Young.

South Australia also took out the Pool A title at this year’s AFL National Development Championships – U16 Girls.

The 2023 AFL National Championships U18 Girls All-Australian team will be selected next week by a panel comprising Kevin Sheehan (AFL Talent Ambassador – Chair), Tarkyn Lockyer (AFL National Academy Coach/Manager), Jess Smith (AFL National Female Talent Manager) and AFLW club representatives Tyson Bourke (GWS Giants), Darryn Fry (Fremantle), Cameron Joyce (Gold Coast Suns) and Ben Waller (Geelong Cats).

The panel will also select the best and fairest award for this year’s Championships.
