ADELAIDE Football Club will be known as 'Kuwarna' during the AFLW's Indigenous Round and AFL's Sir Doug Nicholls Round this year.

Pronounced 'goo-wun-na', Kuwarna is the Kaurna translation for the word 'crows', with the club's rebranding receiving cultural approval from the Kaurna Warra Karrpanthi Language Corporation.

The club will also use a new logo during these rounds which has been designed by Indigenous artist Harley Hall.

AFLW premiership player Danielle Ponter, whose aunty April Napangardi Campbell designed the Crows' 2023 Indigenous guernsey, said she was excited for the club to make a statement.

“To acknowledge the people, culture and language of the land we are based and work from,” Ponter said.

“It’s an opportunity for education and to learn the language itself.

“And it makes me proud the club acknowledges and accepts those here before us and helps others to see the importance of doing so.”
