The AFL is pleased to announce the fixture for the 2024 NAB AFLW Season.

For the first time teams will play an 11-game NAB AFLW home and away season with an additional game on either a Tuesday or Wednesday as ‘Mid-Week Footy' is introduced during a four-week block across weeks four to seven in the draw.

The NAB AFLW Finals Series will feature across four weeks, culminating in the NAB AFLW Grand Final being played on 30 November.

With the competition kicking off during the AFL pre-finals bye week, Week One is set for a blockbuster start with a Friday night double-header.

The action will start for the first time in New South Wales when the Sydney Swans play Collingwood at North Sydney Oval. Daisy Pearce's first match at the helm for the West Coast Eagles will follow later that evening when they take on Richmond at Mineral Resources Park in Perth.

It will be a Super Saturday night when the Geelong Cats and Melbourne clash at GMHBA Stadium, while the South Australian Showdown will be played at Alberton Oval under lights for the first time.

Sunday afternoon of the opening week will be the NAB AFLW Grand Final rematch between the Brisbane Lions and North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos at Brighton Homes Arena in Brisbane.

Pride Round will be celebrated in Week Seven headlined by the Western Bulldogs playing Essendon at Mission Whitten Oval – the venue of the first Pride game in 2018.

Weeks Nine and Ten will celebrate Indigenous Round and will see Dreamtime in the Top End be the jewel in the crown with the traditional Dreamtime matchup between Essendon and Richmond being played for the first time in the NAB AFLW women's competition. Hawthorn will also take their Indigenous Round match to Cairns again when they take on Melbourne on Thursday night.

The competition continues to expand its footprint in all corners of Australia taking games to Mackay, Cairns, Ballarat, Canberra and Darwin. For the first time a game will be played in Coffs Harbour when the Swans take on Richmond in Week Three.

AFL Head of Broadcast Operations and Scheduling Josh Bowler said the competition continues to grow and the introduction of Mid-Week Footy provides further opportunities for fans.

"The NAB AFLW is starting to see the establishment of traditional marquee games and club rivalries being cemented," said Mr Bowler.

"We consulted a number of key stakeholders in the fixture build including the AFLPA, Clubs and Senior Coaches when determining the most appropriate structure of the season.

"The mid-week matches will fall during the school holidays and provide great opportunities for fans to attend and watch at home on evenings that traditionally don't have footy.

"We felt it was important for our fans to maintain the weekend timeslot structure we have seen in previous seasons, whilst also adding an additional game mid-week across the middle of the competition for fans to enjoy."

Bowler added that delivering a strong start to the NAB AFLW Season by launching during the AFL pre-finals bye and finishing in late November was key to maximising viewership and attendance for fans.

"To maximise the broadcast opportunity and amplify TV viewership, it was critical to ensure the NAB AFLW Grand Final – the pinnacle of our season – avoided clashes, whilst maintaining the strong launch to the season we get during the pre-finals bye."

AFLPA Head of AFLW, Julia Chiera: "We're entering an exciting phase of AFLW on the back of the new CBA being in-place for close to a year, which included an increase in salary, year-round contracts, and improved support for players.

"The AFLPA worked collaboratively with our player leaders and the AFL to ensure the design of this years' fixture, including the addition of mid-week games, was as fair as possible and that the scheduling balanced the players' health, safety, and wellbeing as well as growth for the competition.

"We look forward to an exciting season."

Teams will play in a group with other clubs during the week they also play the mid-week match, ensuring both teams will be coming off similar breaks between games.
