THE AFL officially launched the 2024 NAB AFLW Finals Series today, marking the beginning of an epic four weekends of finals football across the country, following one of the most even home-and-away seasons to date.
Announced at the launch and in an exciting historic first for the AFLW, the 2024 NAB AFLW Grand Final will be played under lights, with the evening Grand Final locked in for the last Saturday in November.
Following the next three weeks of incredible finals football, all eyes will be on the 2024 NAB AFLW Grand Final on Saturday, 30 November to see which team will be crowned the 2024 NAB AFLW Premiers.
2024 Premiership Cup Ambassador and three-time AFLW Premiership player Erin Phillips joined AFLW General Manager Emma Moore and Executive General Manager of Football Laura Kane in Melbourne today to make the announcement, as the AFLW embarks on its most anticipated finals series.
General Manager of AFLW Emma Moore, said the evening Grand Final will be a spectacular end to the 2024 NAB AFLW Final Series.
"We have seen a fantastic 2024 NAB AFLW home-and-away season, with 262,452 fans through the gates across the 10 weeks and average match attendance across the season up year-on-year," Moore said.
"Eagles fans flocked to watch their team rise under AFLW icon Daisy Pearce, with a 76 per cent attendance increase compared to 2023. We had celebration of Pride Round and Indigenous Round including the first Dreamtime in Darwin match. Fans have continued to embrace the AFLW with viewership average per match up an estimated 9.8 per cent on 2023 and digital growth on AFLW up 20% year-on-year.
"For the first time in the competition’s history, the NAB AFLW Grand Final will be played in the evening in what will be a fitting celebration for an amazing season – it’s shaping up to be an incredible finals series, with a number of close games this year, and Hawthorn and Port Adelaide in their maiden AFLW Finals Series. We look forward to a competitive and unpredictable race for the Premiership.
"We're thrilled to have Erin along for the ride as the Premiership Cup Ambassador. As a triple premiership player with the Adelaide Crows she has extensive finals experience and many stories of the Cup to share over the next few weeks."
The Finals Launch also marked the announcement of the 2024 NAB AFLW Premiership Cup Tour, which will begin in Phillips' home state of South Australia on Monday, 11 November.
"I'm incredibly excited to be the Premiership Cup Ambassador for this year’s finals series. The NAB AFLW Premiership Cup Tour is such a great opportunity to give back to fans, and get local communities involved in our great game," Phillips said.
"It will be wonderful for the Cup Tour to head to Tasmania for the first time, with a number of Tassie-born players featuring in this year's finals, including Mia King, Nicole Bresnehan, and Daria Bannister.
"The 2024 NAB AFLW Finals Series is going to be hotly contested, it's great to see Port in their first AFLW finals campaign and Adelaide Crows there again. The evening Grand Final is going to be epic, and I can't wait to watch the two best teams of the season go head-to-head at the end of this month and who will be Premiers!"
