ADELAIDE cross-code star Jenna McCormick will potentially miss the start of the NAB AFLW season to push her claims to be part of Australia's squad for this year's FIFA Women's World Cup.

McCormick was going to play the first half of the W-League season with Brisbane Roar before parting ways to focus on the Crows.

However, she will now remain with the Roar, who are fourth on the W-League table with four games remaining.

"I'm really thankful to the Adelaide Crows for allowing me to continue to pursue my passion for both Australian rules football and soccer," McCormick told the Roar's website on Thursday.

"It's a huge year for women's football in Australia and I want to give myself the best possible chance of being involved at a World Cup."

McCormick – a central defender for the Roar – could force her way into the Matildas squad for the World Cup, to be held in France in June and July.

She has been training with the Crows, as recently as last Monday night, while playing for the Roar.

A decision on how long she will remain with the Roar is likely to depend on if they are in finals contention.

The Roar's last game of the regular season is on Friday, February 1 – the day before the Crows open their AFLW campaign against the Western Bulldogs at Norwood Oval.

McCormick could miss the first three games of the AFLW season if the Roar make it to the W-League Grand Final on the weekend of February 16-17.
