ST KILDA has re-signed inaugural coach Peta Searle for the 2021 NAB AFL Women's season.

Searle has been at the club for seven years, first appointed as an assistant coach for the men's program in 2014, before building up the women's program initially through a VFLW team.

Despite a two-four win-loss record in 2020, the Saints were highly impressive in their first AFLW season, losing to top side Fremantle by just one point and defeating finals side Melbourne.

Searle is currently the sole female senior coach in the AFLW.

She said she was looking forward to continuing to build the club's AFLW list, with many of the players having already been at the club for two years (including their time in the VFLW program).

"To see the girls develop over the course of last season and grow confidence in themselves and each other was really rewarding," Searle said. 

"But I know there is still so much improvement to come, which makes it exciting from a coaching point of view. 

"We have added to our group through the draft and trade period with a mix of experience and youth, and the challenge now is to build on what was achieved in our inaugural season." 

Richmond and West Coast are still without senior coaches, with the AFLW pre-season to begin in November.
