DEPENDABLE Fremantle defender Leah Mascall is set to miss the 2021 NAB AFLW season after rupturing her left ACL at training.

It is the 30-year-old's second ACL injury in the space of around 18 months, having suffered one on the opposite knee in the early stages of the 2019 WAFLW season while playing for Subiaco.

Mascall has played 19 games for the Dockers since her debut in 2018, and is often employed in a lockdown role on opposition small forwards.

"Leah will meet with the surgeon this week to discuss her options regarding surgery after scans confirmed she has sustained an ACL injury," Dockers AFLW manager Darryn Fry said. 

"This is obviously very disappointing for Leah and for Fremantle and we will support her fully through the rehabilitation process."

Clubs have until the start of the season to name replacement players for those placed on the inactive list.

The Dockers have already made one change to their initial squad of 30, replacing recruit Jess Trend (unavailable due to other personal commitments) with young utility Maggie MacLachlan.
