DESPERATE to prepare for next week's preliminary final, Brisbane's AFLW side has permission to train during the city's lockdown due to a COVID-19 outbreak. 

The Queensland state government has allowed high-performance sides to continue to train during the lockdown, although the Lions opted to hold their Monday team meeting via a video call.

The Lions are able to train as a full squad, with no restrictions on the number of players allowed to practice together as has been the case in various states over the past year.

Courtesy of a top-two finish, Brisbane luckily has this weekend off and will play the winner of Collingwood and North Melbourne in a preliminary final.

The Lions have hosting rights for that game, but it is not yet clear whether the game will be in the club's home city.

The AFL will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments if required to ensure the health and safety of players, staff and the broader community.

Brisbane's three-day lockdown is currently set to finish on Thursday evening, with state premier Annastacia Palaszczuk saying a decision on whether the lockdown would be extended to be announced on Thursday morning.
