FREMANTLE gun Kiara Bowers has galloped away with womens.afl's player of the season award for 2021, according to the AFL Media team.

After nine home and away rounds, Bowers polled 19 votes, four clear of powerful midfielders Brianna Davey and Maddy Prespakis with 15.

Bowers held a two-vote lead at the conclusion of round five, with Davey finishing strongly after sitting equal-fourth at the same point.

After a hot start to the season, Western Bulldogs skipper Ellie Blackburn added just two votes in the final four rounds. She was second in the count halfway through the season.

The evenness of preliminary finalist Brisbane is on display, with not one player represented in the top 12 but having the greatest spread of players (12) polling.

Melbourne was just behind the Lions with 11 players collecting votes.

Interestingly, fellow preliminary finalist Adelaide had a spread of just six players polling votes, as did finalists Collingwood and North Melbourne.
