THE IRREPRESSIBLE Courtney Rowley is raring to go ahead of the NAB AFLW Draft.

The West Australian midfielder, who's tipped to go with West Coast's first selection (pick No.3 overall), is a highly decorated junior who can't wait to get onto the big stage.

Asked if the NAB AFLW is where she wants to be next year, she grins and nods enthusiastically.

"Oh 100 per cent. There's no other way to put it, really," Rowley told womens.afl.

Rowley started her sporting career playing local netball, but was constantly drawn to the kick-to-kicks her older brother would have with their dad.  

"My brother hated it, but every day, I was kicking the footy with them. I just wanted to play so bad, and one of my friends was like, just come down to (Mandurah) Mustangs and come play," she said.

"It was so good. In netball, you have to hold your aggression in, and I'm not good at that. With footy, you can tackle people and it’s so much better. So, I've stopped playing netball and it's all footy now."

Rowley was a natural, winning the under-18 local league best and fairest at just 12, and getting the call-up to Peel Thunder's under-18 program the following year.

She graduated to senior footy with Peel at 15, winning the club's best and fairest, and was part of its premiership win last year.

A versatile threat, Rowley has the pace and game awareness to play on the wing, but her sharp skills and tackle pressure also lend her to running as an inside midfielder.

"I love tackling and getting people for holding the ball. I don't know why, but when they're nearly away and you get them, it's just so good," Rowley said.

"Doing all the one-percenters, smothering and stuff, that's the best part."

Rowley says she struggles to sit still and is constantly full of energy. She loves getting outside and playing with her Doberman, Turbo.

Coincidentally, her favourite AFLW player is AFLW best and fairest Kiara 'Turbo' Bowers, who's "just good at everything".

"He's pretty cool. The name suits him, he's pretty quick," she said.

"We got him from other people, and his name was already Turbo, so it was meant to be."

For all her accolades, Rowley still has to remind herself she belongs at the top level.

"I love the competition, winning the ball and playing people who are better than me, it makes me better because I don't like losing," Rowley said.

"On the field, I'm so competitive and I know I can win the ball, but off the field, I doubt myself and my abilities, so I need to get better at that.

"I just need to remind myself of what I'm good at."
