IN AN EXTRAORDINARY ending to the AFLW Sign and Trade Period, Carlton's Jess Hosking has reunited with sister Sarah at Richmond.

The 11th-hour trade request sent the AFLW world into shock, with the Tigers and Blues scrambling to get the deal done.

Hosking, picks 55 and 57 were traded to Richmond for picks 23 and 40.

The Blues will be a very different-looking line-up next year, losing Tayla Harris, Chloe Dalton, Katie Loynes and now Hosking this Trade Period, having previously delisted Alison Downie.

Hosking's twin sister Sarah joined Richmond last Trade Period.

"All our discussions with Jess since the end of the season had centred around her re-signing with the club, however yesterday she informed us of her intentions to seek a trade," Carlton general manager of women's footy Brett Munro said.

"That was obviously really disappointing, as we have strong belief in Jess as a player and her qualities as a person, however we know for our playing group to achieve what it is capable of in the coming seasons, that requires total buy in.

"Once she had made her decision our focus was on getting the best outcome for our football club.

"The result is that we now have the opportunity to select three of the best 13 Victorian talent in this year’s draft, which is a terrific opportunity."

The Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne were not able to complete a trade for wantaway Bulldogs ruck Kim Rennie.

As she has been offered a contract by the Dogs, Rennie may have to risk attempting to join North through the NAB AFLW Draft.

Gold Coast came through late to secure North Melbourne ruck Vivien Saad and pick No.30 for pick No.19.

The 28-year-old has played 16 games for the Roos over the past two seasons after joining as a replacement for the pregnant Jess Duffin.

West Coast also swooped late in the final stages, acquiring key defender Evie Gooch and forward Aimee Schmidt. 

Gooch was traded by Fremantle for pick No.38 (sixth overall in the Western Australia draft pool), while Schmidt crossed from GWS via the little-used restricted free agency. 

Competitive key back Gooch was a fixture of the Dockers side, playing 20 of a possible 22 games between 2018 and 2020. 

A combination of work commitments as a firefighter, a back complaint and form saw Gooch add just three games this year. 

Schmidt, 28, is a West Australian but nominated for the NSW pool ahead of the inaugural NAB AFLW Draft. 

She cited COVID-19 as a catalyst in wishing to return home, having played 23 games for the Giants over five years. 

A noted goalkicker, the forward has battled a series of injuries in her time at the Giants, including a nasty dislocated elbow which ruined her 2019 season. 

Restricted free agency allows players to walk to another club if their existing club offers a lower pay tier from their previous deal.

The second club must offer a better deal in order for the move to be made. In this instance, it appears the clubs have worked together to allow Schmidt to make the move back home. 

Earlier on Wednesday, defender Jasmine Grierson was traded from North Melbourne to GWS for pick No.28.

Grierson, 23, has spent the past three seasons at the Kangaroos, adding 19 games to the 13 she recorded at Melbourne in 2017-18.

A strong intercept mark and a clean user of the footy, she was squeezed out of North Melbourne's side for its final three games of the 2021 season.

She will reunite with former Dees teammate Katherine Smith at GWS.

Pick No.28 started with the Western Bulldogs before landing with the Giants in return for Elle Bennetts.

In a separate deal, Collingwood traded picks 26 and 55 for Carlton's picks 29 and 32.

The Blues were then involved in another deal, trading picks 12 and 27 to the Western Bulldogs, receiving picks 11 and 57 in return.

The third pick swap saw the Bulldogs trade pick 12 to St Kilda in return for picks 22 and 25.
