NORTH Melbourne midfielder Ash Riddell will need surgery for a right syndesmosis ankle injury suffered over the weekend.

Riddell was bumped off the ball by Giant Nicola Barr (who was suspended by the Tribunal for a week) and landed awkwardly. She will be sidelined for around six weeks.

Geelong ruck Aasta O'Connor has had a scan on a right knee injury suffered in Saturday's 18-point loss to Western Bulldogs.

O'Connor, 31, appeared to initially suffer a cork to the right quad in the early stages of the third term after colliding with Bulldog forward Deanna Berry.

She failed to play out the match against her former side and had a scan on Monday. The Cats have yet to confirm the exact injury.

Emma Swanson's left shoulder injury isn't as bad as first thought, and the Greater Western Sydney defender is a test for this week after sliding into the goalpost in the opening minutes of the wet match against North Melbourne.

Teammate Aimee Schmidt has now had surgery on her dislocated elbow suffered in round one and will be in a cast for two weeks. A timeline for her return will be set after the plaster is removed.

The inexperienced Collingwood could be further weakened for Saturday's clash against Fremantle, with vice-captain Emma Grant needing to pass a test for a low-grade AC joint injury suffered against Melbourne.

Cora Staunton had a knock to the nose that required some interesting bandaging, but she played out the game in the Giants' loss to the Kangaroos.

Dogs forward Emma Mackie failed a concussion test before the game after an incident at training during the week, while high-flying Carlton forward Tayla Harris warmed up with the team but pulled out late with a shoulder complaint.

Harris will have to get through training on Wednesday, but the club is hoping she will be fit to play GWS on Saturday.
