The Pies have been hit particularly hard by expansion, losing stars Jasmine Garner, Moana Hope, Emma King and Jess Duffin to new arrival North Melbourne.

Grant says her side's situation is difficult.

"These clubs are spending a lot of time and effort developing us," she told podcast hosts Nat Edwards, Sarah Black and Lucy Watkin.

"Obviously we're all on one-year contracts and they can't allow anyone to be on longer contracts because of expansion. It's a really tough one.

"I don't think the AFL got it right in the rules around expansion last year."
