TEAGAN Levi has the perfect role model when it comes to her AFLW hopes – older sister and Gold Coast forward Maddi.

The two are just shy of 16 months apart, with Maddi having been selected by the Suns with pick No.50 in last year's NAB AFLW Draft.

Teagan, a bullocking midfielder who'd be in the mix for Gold Coast's first selection, is seven centimetres shorter than her big sister, and like Maddi, is an accomplished rugby sevens player.

Maddi will represent Australia at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, while Teagan recently played for the Australia B side at an Oceania tournament, and is eyeing off a berth in the national under-18 side.

"Mads said [AFLW] was such a good opportunity, the girls are lovely and you just benefit from being around players who are at a higher standard," Levi told womens.afl.

"Since day one, I've said I wanted to make it as far as I can in both sports. I don’t want to choose, I want to play both.

"At the moment, they're working together, which is really good. I might have to miss one or two (AFLW) games at the end of the year, but I'm very excited to see what the future holds."

Remarkably given her prowess in both football codes, Levi grew up focusing on dancing and cheerleading in primary school.

She picked up the sports once in high school, initially as ways to miss a day of school while playing in football tournaments.

"It turned out I absolutely loved the game (Australian Football). I started playing outside the school at Burleigh Bombers and then Broadbeach Cats, which was really fun," Levi said.

"I've been lucky enough to be in the Suns Academy since under-15s and have had Sammy Iles and Jarrod Wells help coach me through it.

"Just because I've got a connection to the Suns doesn't mean other clubs haven't tried to speak to me," she finished with a laugh.

A member of the NAB AFLW Academy, Levi now represents Bond Uni in both the QAFLW and rugby sevens, and was named player of the series in the latter sport this year.

"One of my favourite things about football is probably the tackling aspect, I love that in rugby as well," she said.

"I also love being able to run non-stop and have so much space and time around me."

Levi is one of a number of players who were only able to play one NAB AFLW Under-19 Championship match due to a series of COVID-19 outbreaks in Queensland and Victoria over the past few months.

"It was pretty hard, and I was pretty upset, but it is what it is, and I can't really change it," she said.

"Every game now, I have to put my best foot forward to make sure I get picked in the draft."
